Writing (and talking) are not separate, distinct acts that we do once the thinking act is done. They are different ways of doing the thinking. It's not like we sit quietly and think.., think.., think.. Then we suddenly go "Done!", and then proceed to either verbalise or jot down the completed thought, after which we return to our own heads and start the solitary process of thinking the next one. Both writing and speaking are different ways of thinking. When we speak out loud, we think in a way that is only possible when we speak out loud. When we write words down, we think in a way that is only possible when we write things down. ------- See this: - https://www.paulgraham.com/writes.html And this: - https://www.nytimes.com/1976/12/05/archives/why-i-write-why-i-write.html And this: - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/leslie_lamport.pdf ---- Internal cross notes: - [[I write to feel more like myself]] - [[A writer]] - [[Write for the 1%]]
